The first Dutch translation of Bartlett's Dictionary of Americanisms (1848), a charming collection of terms like "Crotchety," "Hankering," and "Corn-Dodger" and phrases like "Done Gone" "Down in the mouth" "Lock, stock and barrel", and a surprisingly long entry for "Persimmon." Bartlett's was the first major effort since Pickering's Vocabulary of Words Peculiar to The United States (1815). Rare; OCLC shows no copies in North America.
