Woman's Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences, 3 volumes: Decorative Stitches and Trimming, Sewing Materials [and] Sewing for Profit
Flexible hardcover 12mos printed by the International Textbook Co. for the Woman's Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences, an offshoot of the International Correspondence Schools. Thoroughly illustrated and generally in Near Fine condition with scuffing to one of the covers. The courses provided a means for professional advancement by allowing women to study as their schedules allowed (and for less than in-person instruction). Published in the 1920s and 1930s when many women were taking up extra work in sewing and tailoring to help supplement their household income. The texts include guidance on what skills can allow seamstresses to charge more for their services, suggesting areas of improvement and opportunities for upselling.
