Tile Talks

Waterloo, Iowa: The Cement Tile Machinery Co., (ca. 1909).

Orange printed wraps, 8vo, 32pp. VG+ with minor sunning. Great illustrated wraps and centerfold showing the "Schenk Cement Drain Tile Machine," among many in-text diagrams, illustrations and flourishes.

A real ode to concrete, its durability and superior drainage—the highlight (other than the Duchampian rear cover) is a poem, "The Voice of the Cement Tile," which starts in rhyming couplets: "I am only a hole in an humble vocation, Yet greatly control your civilization; I am made of concrete, and as hard as stone, And am like old Horatius in holding my own; So lay me down, keeping me straight in the ditch, And, while you are sleeping, I'll be making you rich."
