Cloth 8vo, 79pp. Very Good with sunning to spine and rubbing to extremities, small loss of cloth (about 1/4") at the spine head. A handsome production printed in large type with generous margins, privately printed by M. C. Richardson & Co. after, the author claims, "being solicited often and urgently by numerous friends." Aesthetically and materially reflective of a recreational pursuit of science (fashionable among gentlemen of the era), rather than a serious contribution to scholarly dialogue--the introductory "Essay" written in rhyming couplets also supports this assessment.
Census records show that Snyder (1826-1874) was a farmer and a preacher in Clarendon, New York. He patented a "Metallic Chair Seat" in 1870 (reported in Scientific American), but no other mentions of him in print could be located. The text appears written for a student audience and includes comprehension "Problems" at the end.
