The Numeration Table [manuscript mathematics ciphering book]

Philadelphia: Sold by Bennet & Walton, (ca. 1810).

Tall quarto, 12.5 x 7.75 inches. Thick wraps printed with multiplication tables and monetary conversion charts in Sterling and Penna. currency to English Guineas and Portuguese Moidores. Very Good; wraps chipping along the spine with splitting to the bottom half, separated from textblock, nibbling to the outer wrap, not penetrating the inner laminated leaf. 46 pages (first leaf removed). A tidy and handsome book with application to business computation, and an example on the last page uses alcohol. Possible manuscript date on the cover "1821," written with a more modern pen and a sketchy lower half of the "8". Records show the firm operating at the 31 Market Street address with only one "t" in Bennett ca. 1807-1812. They published educational texts, including "A New system of practical arithmetic, particularly calculated for the use of schools in the United States; containing a large proportion of examples in federal money, in each rule throughout the work," compiled by Titus Bennett. They were at their 31 Market St address in 1807 until the end of the next decade.
