Souvenir Program Roller Derby 1939 Duquesne Garden, Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh: S&S Printing Co., 1939.

Softcover, 10.75 x 7.75 inches, [8]pp. Printed and illustrated in blue monochrome, a great photograph of a few derby girls in (and out!) of action on the cover. Old adhesive/abrasion down the back of the spine, as from having been mounted in a scrapbook, else Near Fine with mild soil/discoloration to wraps. Bright and crisp overall. Early days of "The Roller Derby"--the program states the sport is just in its third year. Orchestrated by Leo Seltzer, two teams of players, typically representing a "local" team and a big city rival, 5 on the rink at a time. The rules are further explained in the program, which also has a scoring sheet, two pages of player bios with kitschy cutout headshots. Nice page of rollerskating ads to boot!
