Photograph of a dog staring at a pigeon (occupational dog portrait, cabinet card photograph)
Late 19th-early 20th century cabinet card photograph, 4 x 5.5 inches, mounted to 2.25 x 6.5 card. Pencil inscription on the reverse reads, "This is supposed to be President McKinley's dog." McKinley was in office from 1897 until his assassination in 1901; he isn't recorded to have a dog as a White House pet, but this looks like a hunting dog. Posed opposite a pigeon/fowl on a tablecloth like the canine version of an occupational photo.
