"A Night on Broadway" large vaudeville photograph
Linen-backed silver gelatin photograph, 13.5 x 10.5 inches, with beveled corners and a high gloss finish. In Good condition only with some creasing, closed edgetears and surface wear including a scratch at the upper left edge; foxing to the linen backing. Features three stage performers (comedian Ray Hall, Edith Erminie at Piano, Louise Brice Violinist) set under a spectacular silk curtain. No date, but "Remick," the music publishing house where Gershwin got his start, is visible at the top of the piano sheet music and is likely from around 1915-1920s. The photo appears to advertise both the curtain ("a $2,000 investment in PURE SILK") and the performance itself, titled A Night on Broadway, though the text insists it's the performance that's of value and the curtain just sweetens the pot.
A rather spectacular image, unusual in its focus on the background. The individual performers have their own intrigue once your eye settles on them, but it's stiff competition with the intricate details in the tapestry.
