National Book Week student drawing competition, first prize (framed)

Pencil drawing on a book-shaped cutout with heavy card backing to enhance the 3-D effect. Mounted on a full piece of cardstock and set in an 11x14 frame. Carved wooden frame, no glazing. "First Prize" ribbon medallion affixed to the lower right corner. Some discoloration to the metallic finish of the medallion, one dark spot toward the right edge and closed tearing at the top and bottom of the left edge, some darkening around the bottom (as from glue). Ca. 1939-1940, per the note on the back: 'The drawing was done by Mary Terhurst while a sophomore in "Hi" School, class of 1942' and framed by Selma L Terhurst on February 26, 1968. Lovely piece with a nice prize medallion (or was that a Caldecott?)
