Mathematical Snapshots
First English language edition, originally published in Polish as 'Kalejdoskop Matematyczny.' Cloth 8vo, 133pp. An adventure in recreational mathematics, profusely and dynamically illustrated in a variety of methods, including photographs, diagrams and anaglyphs. An about Good copy: The first 11 pages are a little wavy (as from moisture), while the binding is particularly dry and brittle--possibly a little toasted? Shallow chipping (most unusually at the top edge of the cover), cloth splitting along the joints with matching inner hinges. Previous owner's signature on the front flyleaf heavily canceled in black ink, small date inscription on the pastedown (Feb. 1940). The date on the copyright page is no longer covered (as with the copies printed in Poland). Rear pocket with original "3-D" spectacles, black pattern disc, two color cutouts and a rubber band for forming a model dodecahedron, and 31 cards numbered 1-31 in the rear pocket, plus a transparent paper "net" laid in. No itemized list of pocket materials is could be located to establish completeness--but all those mentioned in Steinhaus' forward are present. The intended number of cards isn't specified, but their consecutive run from 1-31 (and pocket appearing at-capacity) supports this copy likely being complete.
