Maid of America: Specially selected real hair net, sterilized, sanitary
Pictorial envelope, just over 4 x 5 inches. In very good condition with light soil/discoloration. Housing original hairnet in folded tissue. First manufactured by Asbro, ca. 1918, when the bob officially took. Unlike the looser snoods used for protective styling and generally keeping long tresses in place, the delicate human hair nets were also useful for women with bobs. The emphasis on being sterile reflects growing awareness of sanitation and personal hygiene against the backdrop of the Spanish Flu pandemic.
