L'Impression des Tissus de Coton: Blanchiment - Impression - Teinture. Atlas.
Manchester: Abel Heywood and Son; London: Simpkin Marshal; Paris: Georges Carré. Cloth 8vo, (1) title page followed by 38 engraved plates (mostly double- and folding), then 11 numbered leaves with a total of 56 mounted fabric samples. Very Good condition with occasional foxing and toning from residual soot, inner hinges neatly reinforced, mild rubbing to extremities. First edition atlas (plates) volume from theFrench translation of Sansone's The Printing of Cotton Fabrics, Comprising Calico Bleaching, Printing, and Dyeing. Originally published as one volume, which had only 19 plates and 42 printed fabric samples, the French edition was expanded to include more engravings and a broader selection of textile samples, including heavier brushed fabrics. Both volumes of the French edition are rare in both institutions and commerce, but the English text is accessible online, and is a valuable resource to complement this volume.
