Les ex-libris français, depuis leur origine jusqu'à nos jours
Limited edition, revised and expanded to include 24 engraved bookplate designs. This copy has been specially bound in full red morocco with gilt edges and dentelles. It was specially bound with an extra 30 leaves at he end of the text to serve as a collector's album. Only one of these additional bookplates is present (Henri Greslé, 1880), though the first 15 or so leaves have residual markings and discoloration where others were removed, leaving a gap between the sections. The book is in overall Good condition with dampstaining to the rear board, spine leather darkened and crackling. Varying amounts of foxing to the plates, though they remain the spectacular heroes of the volume. The bookplates come from notable collections and authors including Victor Hugo, and Manet. They represent a range of styles and are finely printed. One of only 350 copies.
