Hell: What is it? Who are there? Can they get out?
Softcover 8vo, 58pp + [6]p ads. Very Good+ with a halo of darkening/age toning throughout the volume typical for the pulpy paper stock it's printed on. The booklet argues the rejection of literal hell, a foundational belief of the IBSA. Section titles include "Are the dead conscious?" "Who wants eternal torment" and "Millions returning from hell soon."
A scarce publication from a transitionary period in the religious organization's history. Published in 1924, it comes after the 1916 death of founder Charles Taze Russell, a period of upset within the organization due to the overbearing directorship of Russell's successor, Joseph Franklin Rutherford, legal fallout from anti-government activity that landed the Watch Tower Board of Directors in jail in 1918. Rutherford's leadership was criticized as autocratic and he instituted controversial doctrinal changes. In 1920, he announced that the "thousand-year reign" of Christ would begin in 1925, causing followers to abandon their livelihoods and earthly concerns (Rutherford had to apologize when the prophecy proved untrue). He officially rebranded the organization to Jehovah's Witnesses in 1931.
