Hazel Miller for National Junior Vice President (campaign paddle fan)

Manufactured by Brown & Bigelow, St. Paul, Minn. Printed cardstock fan, 9.25 x 7 inches, stapled to a wooden dowl. 14.5 inches total length. VG- with surface abrasion and pronounced creasing. Text and graphic still crisp.

A paddle fan supporting Ms. Hazel Miller in her campaign to be National Junior Vice President of the V.F.W. Auxiliary--which she successfully secured at the V.F.W. national convention in Cincinnati in September 1942. It was one position on Ms. Miller's rise: she was elected to Junior Vice President of the Iowa State V.F.W. Auxiliary in 1940; served as Chaplain in 1941; National Junior Vice-President in 1942; Senior Vice President in 1943 and President in 1944. She advocated for practical community support, encouraging auxiliary members to offer babysitting and communal outings to servicemen's wives isolated at home with small children, "let them know we are with them in every possible way" (Estherville, Iowa Daily News, 9/18/1950).
