Gorgeous and disquieting photographs of electric medical devices, ca. 1950s
Eighteen 8x10 silver gelatin prints housed in a museum box with buffered tissue interleaves. Good to Very Good condition with occasional instances of surface soil and creases. Two of the photos have more noticeable discoloration around the edges, but the main image areas are largely unaffected. Glamour shots of mid-century medical devices manufactured by Med-Science Electronics and their subsidiary Custom Engineering Development in St. Louis, Missouri. Subjects include the Mayo Profound Hypothermia Apparatus Model 20, Med-Science Electronics Nitralyzer Model 105, Pulsator Model 60, an adjustable operating table, x-ray stand, and other retrofuturistic-looking devices.
