Twelve picture sewing cards (completed), ca. 1927

Springfield, MA: Milton Bradley Co., ca. 1897.

Set of twelve sewing cards, approx. 3.5 x 5 inches each, some a little rough-cut around the edges. The subjects include animals, objects--and, notably, an airplane. There are pen marks on the versos, including a few 1927 dates. A child (Elizabeth / Carol) has completed the cards with bright red, yellow and blue thread, and copied the name of each shape on the cards. They have a little surface soil and wear, but are in Good to Very Good condition overall. Sewing cards became a popular activity that grew out of Froebel's system of Kindergarten (Gift #12).
