Famous Paintings (#1117)

Cincinnati, OH : The Cincinnati Game Co., 1897.

Complete with 52 playing cards (13 cards in series lettered A-D), plus three extra cards promoting the company's educational games. Three-panel foldout instructions mounted to the underside of the lid, as issued. Two side panels of the lid are detached in three pieces, but the cards themselves remain crisp and clean. The base is rubworn around the edges but sturdy, and the typographic lid graphic is intact. Printed copyright date is 1897, but likely an early reprint. "The Cincinnati Game Company" was the re-branding of "Fireside Game Co," renamed in an attempt to move away from the derogatory moral connotations of games and gambling still pervasive at the turn of the century. Promotional card for Parker Brothers puzzle also present.
