[occupational and event photography, musicians, Bar Mitzvah?]
Mounted photograph of a string band with weary hosts at a private event
Photograph mounted to board with roughly cut edges, 7.75 x 9.75 inches, likely ca. 1900-1920. An unusual image of an event that's difficult to place. At one end, a young boy looking a big haughty with his cigar, bottle and chains. At the other end, a man who looks exhausted and maybe a little past tipsy, presumably his father. Both men appear to be wearing yarmulkes, suggesting (along with the party boy) that it may be a Bar Mitzvah. The musicians also appear a little tired, especially the two in the back whose arms sag as they try to hold the pose. A subdued but intriguing collective portrait.
