Book safe from 1738 'Histoire du peuple de Dieu'

Quarto-size book safe, 10.25 x 8 x 1.5 inches. With "Made in France" label to the front pastedown, done ca. 1900 from a 1738 odd volume of Histoire du peuple de dieu. Very Good example with splitting at the top and bottom of the front joints, areas of in-painting, especially at the corners of the boards. Abrasion to the front pastedown. Retains first 6 leaves of text before cutaway, approx 8 x 5.5 inches, lined in marbled paper originally used for the rear flyleaf. More commonly seen in 12mo and 8vo sizes, a nice hollow / secret compartment / stash book / smuggler's bible.
