Uniformly trimmed with minimal loss. Series numbers inconspicuously penciled on covers. Copiously illustrated, including many color plates, and printed on a variety of paper stocks. The covers feature fashionable portraits of women, often reading or similarly engaged. Contents include literature, reviews, current events, news of Spanish culture abroad, advice on women's fashion and domestic life, and many great advertisements. 'Blanco y Negro' was the first graphic magazine of its kind in Spain, founded in 1891 by Torcuato Luca de Tena and inspired by the German magazine Fliegende Blätter (1845-1944).
