One of the most popularly retold stories, this version doesn't skimp on gore and includes an illustration of one decapitated wife, captioned, "She found herself amidst the severed limbs and mutilated bodies of her husband's former wives. The scene was frightful!" Early McLoughlin publication with the imprint "McLoughlin Brothers, Manufacturers, 24 Beekman Street, New York—McLoughlin expanded to 30 Beekman in 1863.
