1964-1969 Northern California Herbarium
Hardcover binder, 12 x 10 inches. 40 total specimens from in and around Fortuna, California. Specimens are mounted on both sides of twelve black paper leaves covered with clear wraparound sleeves (additional unused leaves at rear). The clear sleeves show rubbing wear at the pressure points (where specimens are bulky) and some specimens have shifted inside the sleeves. Most have red gummed labels with the name, location, and collection date. The last few specimens are dated 1969 and are labeled on envelope scraps. The binder shows some nibbling, primarily to the rear board (inside and out), overall Very Good. The specimens are best viewed by peeling away the plastic covers and could be easily framed or relocated if desired. Unlike many herbariums assembled for school or club projects, this was compiled for personal pleasure--more akin in spirit to those assembled as a popular Victorian era pastime, despite its modern appearance.
