1925 ledger book, revisited in 1946
Clairton, PA. 9.5 x 6 inches. Cloth with leatherette corners, a little soiled and shaken, rubbing at the extremities, Very Good overall. Alphabetical index followed by 188 numbered pages. "Weekly Book" written on the spine, (stamped "Colonial Shoe Co.") but only records April-June 1925, which has been crossed out and signed "Mrs. Geo. Simun," who appears to have repurposed the book for her own use.
The next page restarts "Household Budget 1928" and continues for 10 pages into 1929. Expenses include dues to the Sokol Society, a Slavic organization formed around gymnastics, payments to the Fruit Man, car bills, coats, and candy. The budget stops in 1929, followed by a page and a half of song lyrics, probably written around 1943 (includes the hit "Hot Time in the Town of Berlin"), then aggressively crossed out; chords on the next page (p.18).
Then, a long break until the final entry in the book: an incomplete chart on page 79 titled "What time I went to bed," tracking Sunday, March 24, 1945 through April 4, 1946 (a few more dates incomplete).
