ABBOTT, Jacob

The Teacher: Or Moral Influences Employed in the Instruction and Government of the Young: Intended Chiefly to Assist Young Teachers in Organizing and Conducting Their Schools

First edition. Boston: Peirce and Parker, 1833.

Hardcover 12mo, 293pp + (3) ads at rear. Full cloth with paper spine label (a little blurry). Good to Very Good with crack to the cloth below the spine label and reinforcement along the bottom half of the rear joint. Mild soil and sunning overall, intermittent foxing. With engraved half title page and several in-text charts and diagrams. Previous owner's signature of Samuel Adams in ink on the front flyleaf, with "S. Adams" in light pencil above it. The signature has a studied resemblance to that of our Founding Father, who was very dead at the time of publication, implying a bit of mischief. Abbott offers practical examples of classroom exercises and best practices for general school administration intended to aid inexperienced teachers (and enthuse the experienced but weary ones).
