Pattern-embossed cloth boards, 16mo. 190pp. Good with some rubbing to tips, spine/hinges relined with original cloth laid on. Intermittent mild foxing, overall bright and clean. Previous owner signature, Chat le Hall? Ellington, July 23, 1853–which implies family association, but the first name (and thus exact relation) evades us. With an endorsement from Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, “I should, as a father, greatly desire to have a copy of his work…” The book considers the informal or domestic upbringing of children, disposition of children and offers case studies in the financial implications and overall outcomes for children of disparate socioeconomic backgrounds. John Hall initially ran a school for his own children, which became the Ellington School in Connecticut. It was later expanded by his eldest son, Edward, becoming the prestigious Hall Family School.
