Two ferrotype real photo postcards, ca. 1920

Small RPPC’s, 3 x 4.5 inches. Images are typically dark and in Good with surface crazing and mottled finish to photos; printed versos unused, staining to one Unusual format.

Two real photograph post cards manufactured by S. D. P. Co. of Jamestown, NY, ca. 1920. Also known as the Straight Dry Plate Co. (1901-1936). A man and a woman in hats and jackets at the beach, nice cast shadows from a winter sun.

The turn of the century brought a resurgence of interest in ferrotype photography. Instead of requiring a thin sheet of metal, specially prepared papers, like these "Quality Straco Cards" made by S. D. P. could be used to produce direct, instantaneous photographs--similar to the rise, fall, and nostalgic resurgence in Polaroid's popularity.
