Depression-era Teacher's manuscript notebook with instructions for papercraft projects

Vienna, IL: Made by hand, ca. 1930.

Softcover, 8.5 x 7 inches. 40 unnumbered pages. Circa 1930 teacher's notebook with directions for paper cutting and other manual training projects, all illustrated in ink by hand. In Very Good condition with mild rubbing and handling wear, some fading around the edges.

Bookmarks, boxes, and myriad other decorative and practical projects typical of those found in the many books produced by Milton Bradley, Prang, and other educational publishers. Although many such books on paper craft for students were published ca. 1900-1920s, this hand-copied collection of exercises may have been created out of economic necessity, compiled by a young teacher, Ruth Cavitt. Jewell Ruth Cavitt McMahan (1911-2006) graduated from Vienna High School (IL) in 1930 and taught elementary school in Johnson County, IL until retiring in 1970.
