[sewing ephemera]
Embroidered panel quoting Shakespeare
Presumed mid-20th century, folded to 11 x 14 with 2-4 inches of extra fabric turned in. In Very Good condition: the maker's original pencil border is still visible and the fabric (muslin?) has some speckling, but it is overall clean and the colors are still vibrant. Unsigned, undated, and unstated attribution to Shakespeare. A nice secular literary quotation (distinct among the more common Bible quotes and homely aphorisms. The text is spoken by Brutus in Julius Caesar (Act 4, Scene 3):
There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
