Froebel-themed diecut trade card for Milton Bradley Co. supplier

Ca. 1890s. Diecut color lithograph card, approx. 5.5 x 3.5 inches with text on verso. Very Good+ with light soil and slight edge creasing.

Locally produced for Chicago agent Thomas Charles Co., specialist dealers in kindergarten materials, furniture, and books. The company was at the listed 211 Wabash Ave. address beginning in 1892, through around 1897. Thomas Charles was an Indiana teacher who became a specialist dealer in kindergarten materials. The card is a testament to his keen interest, featuring the monument to Friedrich Froebel at Schweina, Germany. An enlargement of Froebel’s second gift, it features the iconic stack of geometric solids—a cube, cylinder, and sphere—sometimes called the “child’s delight.”
