Virginia: 1864.

Single sheet of laid paper with embossed "G.S." insignia, 8 x 5 (folded). Signed, C. R. Fell, Bermuda Hundred, 3rd PA H. Artillery, in care of Capt. Korte. "I could not improve the time beter than to write to one of my old friends that I youse to spend many hours with and hapy ons at that- as I sit on this box my mind is on you insted of my writing but I cant help it for I am one of thoes kind of Boys that think every thing of the women, my helth never was beter tthan at the presant time and I am as fat as a fool and hoping this will find you in the same condition...Well we are not doing any fiting for we have given over our peaces of Artillery, and we are doing Fatigue duty at the landing of the Apomattix River, it is a safe plase to be for there is no fiting to do, but plenty of hard work, but I think that we will leave here soon and go in the Riflepits which I dont admire [mistek?]...
