Softcover 8vo: 36, (1)pp. Compiled by Homer C. Toothman (1915-1917, 1919-1921), J. C. Hupp, D. A. Ward, and Bessie B. Harnette.A Good copy only, well-referenced with pencil markings and some annotations in text. Covers with soil and wear, staples corroded, leaving the two center leaves loose. "It has frequently been our experience that during a crisis or a time of doubt in our lives or when we have needed strength or courage, one of these gems learned long ago has come to mind and has tipped the decision for right or has given support when the burden was heaviest." Undated, but clearly related to an uneasy political climate and likely WWI-era (Toothman was superintendent 1915-1917, 1919-1921). It includes contemporary quotes by Theodore Roosevelt and Henry VanDyke, as well as gems from the founding fathers, Lincoln, Socrates, and Shakespeare. Rear cover features a quote attributed to John J. Conwell: "As for me if radicals are to attempt to overthrow this government and plant Soviets in its stead, let us know it now and we will meet it..."
