1850s earnest & orthographically dynamic letter from Ms. Sarah Riggle to Mollie

[Antis, PA]: Sarah J. Riggle, March 2 (ca. 1856).

A letter from Sarah J. Riggle, born in Antis, Blair County, PA in 1839. The Riggles were a prominent family, settling "Riggles Gap" around 1830 and later establishing a church and school there. From the letter, it seems that Mollie was involved with taking care of the Riggle children and has left domestic employment to be married ("David run around the house three times crying about you leaven"). It appears the Riggles School had not yet been established at the time of the letter, but the family is mentioned in another letter from Blair County in 1856 viewable here.

The letter closes "Wide is the ring that has no end so is my love to you my frind... dont laugh at my bad spelling and riting."
