1950s French sewing skill sample panel tableaux (flap enclosures, pair of 2)
A frankly odd assortment of student work incorporating sewing skill samples into (mostly) pictorial work. Featuring functional pockets and finishing details, the pieces are inset between manila cards with cutout shapes and illustrations painted in watercolor. Some read clearly as part of an image (an ice rink, a flower, a scroll...), others are a bit of a stretch—like the trouser fly ornamented with sprigs. An eclectic bunch with assorted charm. 12.5 x 9.5 inches.
