Hear Ye!! The Gisriel-Long Evangelistic Party

Two color letterpress broadside, 11.25 x 14 inches. Very Good a closed tear to the left edge, corners lightly bumped, inconspicuous surface abrasions. "1925" penciled in bottom margin.

Broadside promoting the Evangelistic Party duo Rev. Edward C. Gisriel, "A Great Man with a Burning Message Direct from God's Word," and Prof. J. Owen Long, "A Good Man who can Sing His Way Into Your Very Heart." The pair headlined the 1925 Methodist "Cooptown Revival" Camp Meeting in Harford County, Maryland, a major annual Methodist revival meeting that drew massive crowds from 1888 to around 1942.

Local newspapers show Gisriel & Long also appeared at Bethany Methodist Protestant Church in Pocomoke City, Maryland, presumably among other engagements for which this ad could drum up some souls. Edward Columbus Gisriel (1884-1959) was a Baltimore native and lifelong preacher active throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania. J. Owen Long (1876-1953) was a Gospel singer and composer from Harrisonburg, Virginia, where the broadside was found.
