The Universal Spelling Alphabet: An Amusing, and Instructive, Parlour Game. Containing 400 Letters, Figures, Notes, &c.

Ca. mid-late 19th century British alphabet spelling tiles housed in a wood slide-top box with hand-colored lithograph label. Letters divided into sections with punctuation and special characters in the last slots. A number of large capitals appear from another set, but a reasonably attentive count of the original letters numbers them around 380. Pretty good! Small hole above the second "A" on the lid, a little overall wear but very sturdy and clean overall. Aesthetically spot-on. With the lion and unicorn Great Britain Coat of Arms at the top of the instructions, which are pasted on the underside of the sliding lid and use British spellings. No stated publisher or date; bottom has the inscription "Ruth Mann from Mrs. Coppin Xmas 1923, Seagate."
