Folding briefcase with large fabric samples, 15 x 10.5 x 2.5 inches. 22 fabric samples bolted in the case, the top sample with a few holes in the cloth, others untouched. Comes with 5 extra samples (including a duplicate of the damaged piece) and separate group of 7 winter weight fabrics (and some nice herringbone patterns) fastened with a brad. With a stack of business cards, a worksheet for taking the customer's measurements, and an "Authorized Dealers Certificate" which fit into a pocket at the bottom of the case.

A search for Detroit Merchants Tailors yields little but the salacious court transcript from Weinstein vs. Weinstein, in which the man behind the company sues his "scheming adventuress" of a wife for defrauding him in the course of him defrauding others, and taking advantage of his personal ailments suffered as a result of his position during the Russian Revolution of 1917-1918, the details of which could use some elaboration. The documents reveal Weinstein was at the center of numerous criminal and civil investigations ranging from fraud to aron and operated the traveling tailor scheme as "Leroy Tailoring Company" in New York, and later, "National Custom Tailoring." Per the testimony in the transcript, "Detroit Merchants Tailors" was active around 1928-1929. A neat bit of kit with a murky association.
