[penmanship]
1867 - Payson, Dunton & Scribner's National System of Penmanship in Twelve Numbers, Revised and Improved (Volume Number 2)
Pale lavender wraps, 7 x 8.5 inches, 24 pages. Very Good with light sunning and soil, wraps delicate and cleanly split along the bottom inch of the spine. 1867 copyright, 1870 date penciled on the cover, but more likely completed ca. 1875 based on dated copies of the student Lizzie Herr's subsequent copybooks from the series. Attributed on the cover to J. W. Payson, W. M. Scribner, Seldom Dunton, as well as G. H. Shattuck and A. S. Manson, one of the last with the Boston Woolworth, Ainsworth & Co imprint. An early number in the series, the work consists primarily of repeated letters that form attractive patterns and visual textures.
