Blue cloth binder, 13 x 10 inches; (3), 1-52pp + 43 blank. 2p typed table of contents and 18 manuscript pages of text mounted to the leaves, and an extra 1p draft of her "Bulletin Board" essay laid in. Very Good with chipping to the mounted cover illustration, heavy mottling to rear board and 3" area of (glue?) residue. Occasional small edgewear to pages and mounted material, extra residue/wear on the page of crop samples. Textblock with typical toning, but generally Very Good and suitable for handling.

Titled using cut-out letters, a nice example of the style and methods depicted in period teaching and classroom guides. Visual aids are grouped into the categories of Objects, Specimens and Models; Still Pictures; Moving Pictures; Dramatization; Graphic Material; and Radio.

The binder was compiled by Helen Woerner (1898-1983), a long time teacher in Sharpsburg, Pa., a heavily industrialized riverside borough just outside Pittsburgh. While "The Farm" would be a familiar topic for many Pennsylvania students, her plans emphasize ways to provide urban students with a holistic understanding of the agricultural side of life. She proposes organizing a field trip, or "school journey," for her class to provide first-hand experience when possible. 6 original photos, one showing a horse & buggy, are included to make her argument. She also includes repurposed imagery, like the color pictures suggested for the blackboard, and examples of student-generated visuals, like the cutout poster and chart. Standout examples include two handmade "vegetable puppets" with articulated limbs (and a mustache and bowtie) and a page with mounted envelopes of oats, wheat, corn, buckwheat, barley and rye.
