DicKinS Sportswear, Designed by Cotto

New Bedford, MA: DicKinS, Inc., ca. 1940.

Softcover small 4to, [40]p. The first 22 pages feature illustrations of the available styles--all for women except one page for men's button-down shirts. The following 18 pages offer samples and explanations of the different fabrics' characteristics and uses, and a sample sheet of monograms. Very Good with mild sunning, spots of discoloration or abrasion. Cover worn through at the lower brad, small snags and creases around the edges of the wraps, reinforced in places from the inside with archival tape. 65 mounted swatches plus two loose samples paperclipped to the last page, two sample strips of thread colors. Several of the mounted fabric samples are creased, but appear to all be present. Intermittent annotations regarding the styles, sizing and availability of different options.

A message from company president Richard H. Gee inside the rear wrap explains that although DicKinS sportswear (designed by Cotto in New York and manufactured by Weetamoe Weetamoe Sportswear, Inc. with fabrics from Wamsutta Mills in Massachusetts) was previously supplied to retailers like Saks Fifth Ave and Abercrombie & Fitch, it would now be exclusively available through the company. Date comes from a DicKinS direct sales ad for "'Cotto' Designed Sportswear" in the Philadelphia Inquirer on Sun. April 7, 1940, which also announced an "opportunity for Women with social contacts to hold exhibits." This booklet was likely intended for such audiences.
