Fun for All

New York: J. S. Ogilvie, 57 Rose St., 1882.

Green cloth 12mo; 60pp, + "Original Conundrums" (5)-116pp, + "Ha! Ha!! Ha!!!" (11)-72pp + (2) ads. Very Good with occasional shallow edge tears and small chips to the brittle pulp paper; binding shaken and rubbed at extremities, hinges reinforced. 1898 inscription to ffep, "A Merry Christmas to Fred," else unmarked. Illustrations on pages 35 and 45 of "Ha! Ha!! Ha!!!"

1882 is the only stated date, but the imprint and address at 57 Rose indicates 1887-1893. Ogilvie published a number of entertainment and lifestyle books attributed to Nellie Greenway (a pseudonym?) around 1880-1905, including Fifteen Hundred Riddles, How to Entertain a Social Party, and How to Become Beautiful.

Fun for All originally appears in Ogilvie's list of publications in the 1882 Publisher's Trade List Annual as a 64pp 16mo, and is offered in the "Favorite Edition" series. The present volume combines several shorter pulps into a single volume with a distinct title page, repackaging the cheap pulps in a giftworthy format. No copies of Fun For All in this or the original format appear in OCLC; 1 copy of Ha... is at Harvard.
