Gallatin Bottling Co. shop display ft. Dodge Brothers Business Car and soda pops (Donora, Pa., ca. 1920s)
8 x 10 photograph, Good to Very Good with three discoloration marks along the left edge and chemical tidemark along the bottom. Light soil to verso which is printed with a repeating mark, "This paper manufactured by Kodak," which may indicate the print was made later. The image appears ca. 1920s based especially on the plain Dodge Brothers advertising ("A good name. Dodge Brothers Business Car, Dodge Brothers Motor Car"). The photo shows a Dodge business car set in the rear of a storefront fully commandeered by advertising for Gallatin Bottling Co. soda pops, including Bludwine ("Makes you glad you're thirsty"), Lemon Dee-Light, Grape Smack, Cherry Blossoms, and Howdy ("The Friendly Drink"). Orange Julep labels spell out "GALLATIN ALL QUALITY" across the floor--possibly a disused space in the company's Donora bottling plant, which would not have required a walk-in retail setup. A curious display, delightful in the range of typography and props.
