Ambrotype of a little terror / young boy in a half case (child portrait)

Ninth plate, 2.5 x 2 inches. Mid-late nineteenth century, set in an embossed leather-covered case with brasswork matting, bottom of the case only, latch still attached. Photo plate has some scuffing and damage from the reverse side, including a scratch through the shoulder. Great sense of depth. Evocative image of a young boy who does not appear to be a "delight." Pleasingly unpleasant.
