Wild Flower Note Book (Herbarium)
An extensive collection of 82 numbered flower specimens identified by their common, scientific, and family names, plus a "Haven't Any Name" section of 14 examples at the rear awaiting identification. Mounted on extra lightweight paper with BRIGHTONE watermark and housed in black leatherette binder, 12 x 9 inches, with illustrated title page and table of contents. No date, estimated to be mid-20th century. A bit musty, but ovverall in Very Good conditition: binder has mild fading/discoloration. The title page has the usual tears at the hole punch and is loose but laid in; only one of the specimens has fallen out of the book (#10, cinquefoil), otherwise they appear remarkably crisp against the soft, clean pages, with minor offsetting.
The thin strips of mounting paper placed in even, parallel intervals lend an unusually modern artistic quality to the collection, an otherwise traditional herbarium. Well-executed preservation of the specimens, which generally retain the sculptural articulation of their petals, buds and leaves--not squished into oblivion and disintegrating away, as can often be the case.
