Cloth-backed, hand-colored folding chart, approx. 42 x 28 inches in 25 panels, loosely inserted in pebbled cloth cover with gilt stamped title. With 23pp booklet. Previous owner's signature on the verso of the chart, mild rubbing to corners and spine ends, otherwise VG+ to Near Fine. A supplementary chart of later events, published by John Clark Ridpath in 1885, is laid in. Rev. Henry Linton was the Senior Lecturer in Divinity at St. Aidan's Theological College, Birkenhead. No copies of the charts or the booklets are recorded in OCLC.A companion to his Chart of Ancient History, which centered around Biblical history, Linton's Modern Chart also focuses on Church events, including a litany of Crusades and the history of Africa summarized to "gradually conquered by Christian Kings..." Even the small matter of America is represented as a footnote of military conflict. A few secular "Events and Characters" are memorialized: Isaac Newtonn, naming the days and months, the invention of clocks with wheels, the end of Latin. Curious and visually compelling.
