Paul Klee Notebooks Volume 1: The thinking eye

First American Edition. New York: George Wittenborn, Inc., 1961.

Hardcover, 8.75 x 8 inches, 541pp. Mixed issue/edition unclear, likely the First American Edition printing in a later jacket: Copyright page dated 1961, translated from the 1956 German edition, 'Das bildernische Denken'. No other printings stated (as we've seen in other copies), but with 9-digit SBN and in a later jacket that lists the 1973 reissue on the rear panel--though this is not that revised reissue, which had 574 pages.

Documents of Modern Art / d.m.a. vol. 15, series edited by Robert Motherwell. With over one thousand drawings from Klee's notes, 188 halftone illustrations, 1 folding plate and numerous tipped-in color plates. Very Good with slightly shaken binding worn at the spine ends; in Very Good dust jacket with light soil and edgewear, particularly at the corners. Jacket housed in mylar. Previous owner's contact information on the front endpapers; else unmarked. Pleasing copy of the uncommon hardcover.
