Swing A Peg (Milton Bradley #4390)

Springfield, MA: Milton Bradley Co., ca. 1890.

Nicely sculptural and collectible early Milton Bradley game in original box with chromolithographed lid, ca. 1900. A wood and wire contraption with 2 large and 2 small leatherette-covered discs. The swinging mechanism appears smaller than in other (later?) copies of the game when it came in 2 parts, but this version does appear to be complete as-is. Simple game, instructions printed on the underside of the box lid. From the Strong National Museum of Play (Rochester, NY): With "Swing A Peg," Milton Bradley produced an unusual ring-toss game. Instead of a stationary target, the peg in this version swings back and forth, making the game more difficult. Although this game represents a variation of the more common ring-toss, its swinging variation makes it unique as well. Milton Bradley's box cover illustration leaves no doubt that the entire family could enjoy this game.
