The "Atoms for Peace" bus was part of "Operation Candor," aimed at educating the American and global public about the risks and the potential peaceful benefits of atomic energy, shifting the public's focus from fear of atomic warfare toward hope for peaceful nuclear technology. The campaign was named after Eisenhower's address to the United Nations General Assembly on December 8, 1953.
