Remaillage endroit-envers (mending examples from French sewing course)

France: Made by hand, ca. 1949.

Student Simone Pons' hand fashioned 'cours de couture' portfolio with four panels of heavy paper stock that fold inward to 10.25 x 6.75, pockets and spine reinforced with gummed paper. Contains 6 examples of mending or "remeshing" techniques in knitting. The examples are mounted with tiny brads which can be finicky with the thick knitting and has some resultant creasing/unevenness, but the pieces remain clean and in good condition. Pockets on the outer folds hold two hand drawn, color diagrams that show the stitching pattern, about 5 x 8 inches each. Also includes a teacher's note that seems to indicate the work was correctly, but not neatly, completed.
