Wraps, 8vo, 199pp. Good with staining to wraps, chipping to the spine ends and intermittent foxing/discoloration throughout. Blurry ink notation on the cover, contents unmarked. Mann, "having impaired his health by a laborious and unremitting attention to the duties of his office," embarked on a European tour to restore his health while observing education in other countries, particularly Germany and Prussia, which he commended for universal education and progressive Schools for the Blind, Deaf and Dumb. The report is largely dedicated to Mann's observations, some critical of established methods in MA schools which stirred controversy with the Association of the Masters of Boston Public Schools, which swiftly published a rebuke of the secretary's "complaints."
